1.) Avoid a lot of digging……you want to encourage earthworms. They will aerate the soil, pull in organic matter, and create fertilizer. Topping beds with Compost, bark mulch and shredded leaves encourage worms.

2.) Don’t use insecticides if you can help it. They aren’t worm friendly and can kill off other, beneficial, insects.

3.) Seek out plants that are more naturally bug resistant.

4.) When you plant a diverse landscape with all these points in mind,  you can pretty much get out of the way and let nature take its course. Nature has a way of balancing itself.
