I want to make a few posts on how to work within the natural system instead of against it. First, a few points to consider:
1. Don’t make Gardening harder than it should be. Don’t worry about the unrealistic perfect yards that you see in magazines. In the real world, that’s not gonna happen without devoting all your time to the garden, or spending a ton on hired help. Be happy with natural, imperfect beauty.
2. Research a little and choose plants that are gonna be happy in the space you are using. Pay attention and try to match plant type with the conditions of your location.
3. Sometimes it’s better to do nothing than something. A lot of gardening practices are counter-productive, like spraying for aphids and not considering that we killed off the lady beetle larvae that would have fixed the problem in a week.
4. Try to copy the original master gardener: Mother Nature. She’s been growing plants a lot longer than us, and hasn’t resorted to Miracle Gro.
I’ll post more on this topic tomorrow, and I welcome your comments.
